You mean he refused 500 for a rifle he got 770 for???! Madness I say!

Price is a measurement, like a bathroom scale as PJ ORourke used to say. Doesn't matter what number you think it should read, it matters what it is. Because these are so scarce, someone is going to pay a certain price when they do pop up. As a 41 Tula owner, I'm happy with it.

I don't think the they all are worth $770, today. Just that one, at this time. I would add that a fair auction is a fair auction. But another one might only reach $500 if offered today. Still a fair chunk of change, for a scarce item. Still hoping for one for myself, someday. AND... I could be wrong. Where do you find them? Not everywhere.

Yes, the particular buyer has some nice stuff. He has snagged many uncommon items, across a wide range of collecting interests. Albeit a collection that costs much more than usually accepted market value. Man, he'll pay ANYTHING if he wants it. I know....

... been outbid by hundreds, many times over. But wow, he must have a suite full of rare guns.

Well, I am waiting on the 1941 Tula/Izh both markings just purchased. This will go well with my 7 triple date MO's, Quad date MO, and my two XO's. I remember my M1 carbine collection I sold off in 1994, Would be worth a small fortune with the line-outs, buff-outs, and all the transferred receivers. Think I sold 25 carbines for about 40K in 94. For some of you older collectors, they were displayed at the Dixon Louisville show a couple of times.

I agree, I wouldn't pay that much either but it was just an eye opener to see the final price of it, I was watching it when it was a lot lower and thinking about bidding on it. It just amazed me that the 1941 Tula sold for more than $200 over the 1919 I purchased recently. I'm happy the 1919 didn't sell for that high!

As the owner of two 1919 Tula M91's (and zero '41 Tula 91/30's), I can see why it sold for more. I've seen well over a dozen '19 Tula M91's pictured on this forum over the last couple of years. I've seen only three or four '41 Tula 91/30's over that same span.
Those '41's are a TOUGH hole to fill. Kido's to the winner!

Collectors are a weird breed - I have paid less for more and more for less - Year of production....Hmmmm I do believe there are dozens of collectors here who have collected years of Mosin production.....;) 700 some odd bucks is a small price to pay if that year is missing from the ole collection.....;)

1943 VKT M39s come to mind.....another hen's tooth....;)

Lately the SA 1944 91-30 has eluded me.....Interesting year of production :)

Why are the two "1"s in the 1941 date stamp of a different font? Why are all the serial numbers apparently double struck? Why are there indentations on the receiver below the last "1" in the date stamp?
